Auburn's House is owned and operated by Joe and Auburn Velasquez. Both life-long residents of the Monterey Peninsula, they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the school environment. Auburn was educated at the Association Montessori and later graduated from UC Santa Cruz. She has now been a teacher of Montessori for 29 years. After working for the City of Seaside for fifteen years, Joe recently made the move to working exclusively in partnership with Auburn at their in-home school for over five years, handling the school administration. Together, with their far-reaching vision and drive to see children succeed, they have created a unique school for children. Auburn's House is flexible, with a program that is designed to meet the needs of each individual child.
The indoor and outdoor classrooms are complete with age-appropriate Montessori equipment and learning tools. The two areas are inter-related in that a child will study inside and then apply what he has learned outside.
The child learns practical life skills that are essential to their social and emotional development through language arts, theater and music, math, geography and social sciences.
Auburn's House is a state-licensed, in-home Montessori School, serving a maximum of twelve students at a time, (from pre-school to kindergarten), ( from 2.6 year to 5 years old ) and the benefits are unmatched. Located on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula in Seaside, they are within walking distance of City Hall, the library and several city parks.
Parents statements of recommendation:
“After completing pre-school and kindergarten at Auburn’s House, my daughter was able to make such a smooth transition to public school, both academically and socially. Her new teacher noticed immediately how well-rounded she was as a student. It was so rewarding!”

“There’s something for everyone at Auburn’s House; she addresses the needs of any type of learner. For this reason, it has been easy for me to combine the work I do in our Lindamood/Bell Program at MPC with a number of her students as they develop their early reading skills.”
